Maranatha Health Services

With a humble beginning in 1988 at Atwima Atwedie a small town in the forest zone of Ashanti Region of Ghana, Maranatha Health Services has become a household name as far as quality health care delivery is concerned. After several ejections by landlords the Hospital moved to its present location at Kwadaso/Asuoyeboa in 1999. Driven by the motto: "Your Holistic Health Care Delivery is Guaranteed! (Assured!!)" Maranatha Health Services has prevailed through many stages of development and is currently running a 24-hour-service to the community and suburb at large. Even though the hospital can use a lot of help to improve its health care services, it has come a long

way and has acquired a few state-of-the-art medical equipment so as to be able to provide good health service to the community.

The Hospital registered 2,412 cases in 2003, 3,538 cases in 2005 and 5,963 cases in 2006. The trend has consistently risen. As at July in 2009, the registered cases had risen to 9,704. These rise in the cases reported at the Hospital is a clear indication of the trust and confidence in the health care delivery of the Hospital. In October 2003, Maranatha Health Services launched its outreach clinic under which free medical treatment is offered to the aged, children and the under privileged in the society. The launch was attended by the Metropolitan Chief Executive of Kumasi and the Regional Director of the Ghana Health Service. The outreach services started at Adankwame near Mfensi, a village in the Atwima Nwabiagya district of Ashanti. Every week a Medical team from Maranatha visited the village to provide treatment to pregnant mothers and the sick at very low cost and sometimes for free.

The outreach service then moved to Bonkwaso No 1, a village in the Ahafo-Ano south district of the Ashanti region. Since the outreach started in Bonkwaso No 1, the people have provided enormous support and this has led to the establishment of a Maternity clinic for the people there through the help of Direct Relief International (D.R.I) a Non Governmental Organisation in the U.S.A. The facility has full time workers who work 24 hours a day. Th e launch of the Maternity facility was attended by the Deputy Minister of Health, Hon Abraham Odum. Maranatha Health Services has also established a branch at New Achimota in the Greater Accra region of Ghana. All three health facilities have been accredited by the National Health Insurance Authority to provide health care services to clients of the Health insurance Scheme. The Hospital registered 2,412 cases in 2003, 3,538 cases in 2005 and 5,963 cases in 2006.The trend has consistently been rising.

As at July in 2009, the Hospital had registered 9,704 new patients. As at this same period, 667 new antenatal cases had been seen at the Hospital with 247 deliveries. These rise in the cases reported at the Hospital is a clear indication of the trust and confidence in the health care delivery of the Hospital. A major achievement for the facility is the upgrading of the facility into a Hospital status by the Private Hospitals and Maternity Homes Board in February 2009.The road network linking the main road to the Hospital has been tarred. This has made the Hospital more accessible to clients who use vehicles. The proprietress, Mrs. Agatha Amoateng-Boahen is currently the National vice-president of the Ghana Registered Midwives Association. She is also the executive producer, host and presenter of the television show “Ante Midwife” formerly “Nyinsen Ne Awoo” which literally means Pregnancy and Child Birth on TV3. She is also the founder and President of Safe Motherhood Reproductive and General Health Promotion (SAMORGHEP), a non Governmental organisation. Indeed the achievements of Maranatha Health services are enormous and this is due to the commitment and dedication of its staff.
